#18 - Interior trim is in full swing now.

 

Next to drywall this is one of the most labor intensive phases.  It takes a ton of work to get clean trim in there.  Far more than I thought.  Next post will show more detail on how much work it takes to prep all that trim for painting.

#17 - Rear stairs and landing

 Started on this part.  Its mostly done now.  Just have to bolt it to the concrete, finish handrails.  I will get the trex material for the decking and stairs later, the plywood is temporary.

#16 - Doors and floors

 

Garage door was finally installed.  No more plasting ones.  Its a belt drive and its pretty crazy how quiet it is .vs chain drives.  I doubt you even hear it inside the house when it operates.

Flooring is all complete now.  I am glad we decided to carry the wood through the kitchen.  It looks pretty nice overall now.

#15 - Drywall is done, painting has started

 Lots of progress on the walls and ceilings.

Painting has started.  Entire house is now sprayed with primer, all ceilings are sprayed.  Will start prepping trim now for painting which is a massive task.

Ever wonder how they paint those really tall stairwells?  Apparently using this.

#14 Drywall

 

Short title, long post.  :)  LOTS of drywall work done.  Probably like 60-70% of the house at the end of the day.  Tons of patching with all the electrical re-wiring.  Notice there are no downstairs drywall photos.  Thats because contractor did upstairs drywall then started mudding.  Then I started spraying primer and he moved downstairs and is doing the drywall and tape/mudding now.

Reminder what we are dealing with in the "old"areas of the house.  Fiber board, with a layer or plaster over it, then a layer of drywall on top of that.  Most of the 30-40% of drywall not redone is like this.  Demo of this stuff sucked.

#13 Dining room and entryway floors

     Since we decided to replace DR floor I saved a few bucks on demo by doing it myself.  Glad we did, there was old crystallized dog pee in multiple spots.  :(  i used a lot of enzyme cleaner on that stuff.  I hope I can still re-use a good amount of the wood for some kind of later accent wall or something.  Have to see how much is contaminated.

Here you can see the staining.  Anything black is where the dog pee stained the paper under the HW flooring.

This is Red Oak from the hallway, the mismatch of flooring types was probalby the thing that pushed us over the edge to replace these.  We will keep the LR wood floor and refinish it.

This is after all the flooring is up, you can see there are no more stains and they are cleaned and we have started with the layer of plywood.  We decided to put down a thin layer of plywood, and its screwed down and glued down as well.  You can't see the large box of screws that I sunk into the sub flooring before the plywood went on.  It made a hug difference in how noisy the floors are and once we put a layer of HW on top it should feel pretty solid.  (I hope)

 

#12 Infratructure update

    Lots of behind the scenes stuff.  Most of if was not very fun at all.  Network wiring, I like hardwired cables for anything with video, so that means pulling CAT6.  I also added insulation for sound to pretty much every interior wall that I could access.  Sunk easily 100-150 screws into the upstairs subfloor to help with creaks as well.  Contractor added laundry chute, I get to make it look nice inside the house later.

Yes in the shower, that wall is shared with the Master Bedroom so I put whatever I could in there.

Was finally able to get the internet setup again so the house has access.
